Featured Friday – Sarah Thomas

Today we are introducing a new segment to our blog titled “Featured Friday,” where we will be taking a closer look at one of our featured photographers and giving them some well deserved recognition. We couldn’t think of anyone better to kick our new installment off than Sarah Thomas of A2Z Photography. Sarah is one of our newer featured photographers, but has already become an awesome partner to Backdrop Outlet. We encourage everyone to check out her section on our website HERE as well as her own website HERE. You will quickly realize that her photos are extremely family oriented, which we appreciate over here at Backdrop Outlet! We at Backdrop Outlet hold family values very close to our hearts and Sarah’s amazing photos greatly help propel that viewpoint.

We wanted to get to know Sarah on a more personal level so we decided to ask her some questions:

When/why did you get started in the photography world?

Sarah Thomas: “I have had a love for photography for as long as I can remember. The ability to capture that precious moment in time is something that I have always had a great appreciation for. From a small child, I would carry around a tiny 110 film camera and take pictures of my pets, family and toys I don’t think a time passed in my life when I didn’t have some sort of camera in my possession.  It’s actually amazing looking back now to see how photography has always had a significance in my life.

Even though I have always taken my own families photos, the idea to do this professionally didn’t come until much later.

My first photography related position was for a large retail studio location. Although I loved that job, I really didn’t have the creative control I wanted or needed.

It has always been important to me to stay home with my children but still contribute financially to my family. So with the support of my family I made the decision to stay home with my children and put everything into opening my company, A2Z Photography.  I’ve been operating A2Z Photography for 5 years now and it’s been aconstant learning experience. It’s taken a lot of learning, a lot of upgrading and buying and a lot of just plain work to get where I am now.”

Sarah’s Wonderful Children

What is your favorite type of photoshoot?

Sarah Thomas: “My favorite sessions are infants, babies and children! I just love them all but I would say my absolute favorite are newborns just because you are capturing such a precious time in that family’s life and of course, I get to snuggle them! I have so much fun seeing my clients families grow and getting to capture all of the milestones getting them there.”

What is your Setup like? (Equipment, props, etc)?

Sarah Thomas: “I currently operate in an in-home studio and on 6 acres of land that has built in natural props throughout.  My main camera is a Nikon D800e and my favorite lens is my Nikon 24-70, although I still love to use my Nikon 70-200 and my Nikon 50mm. I use Alien Bee flash units with soft boxes for in-studio lighting and my favorite backdrops are titanium cloth drops from Backdrop Outlet. I have drawers and bins full of wraps, hats, baskets, birthday, and random holiday props throughout the studio.”

What is next for A2Z Photography?!

Sarah Thomas: “In the future, I am planning to expand by building a larger studio to better accommodate my clients.”

I think it goes without saying that Sarah will be able to achieve her goals with her company. She has proven to be an amazing photographer and we are so glad to be working with her!

We wish her the best of look and look forward to her future work using our products

-Until Next time
